Every now and again, it's important to step back from the hustle and bustle of our daily routine to look where we are spending our time and energy.
Have you ever looked at a breakdown of your typical day? Where do you spend your time and energy - work, school, sitting in traffic, sports or exercising, eating, talking to friends, reading e-mail, listening to music, watching TV or movies, social networking, gaming, shopping, sleeping, praying, reciting the rosary, participating in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, volunteering in support of the sick, hungry, the homeless, the dying, the handicapped, the poor and the elderly.
How much time do you spend in prayer and meditation on a given day? If you talked to your spouse or your best friends only when you needed something, giving them only 2 or 3 minutes a day -- or no time at all -- what type of relationship would you have?" Attending Sunday Mass only once per week, is only giving back to God 1/168 of our time. Our merciful and loving God --Who gives us life itself, the very air we breathe and every thing we see and own -- is often only given 1/168 of our time and energy in return.
We all need to carefully analyze how much time and energy we are putting into a relationship that should be the most important relationship in our lives. Is it an imperceptibly small slice of the weekly pie?
Our relationship with God must go beyond weekly Mass, beyond Sunday. The time and energy, treasure and talents we give back to God must exceed the bare minimum -- for if we are being honest, He is really the owner of all these things anyway ...
